Help For SMEs In Unlocking Global Opportunities
Thousands of SME businesses may be failing to fulfil their full potential due to uncertainty over how to take the first step into international trade and exporting, says the UK’s leading express delivery operator, TNT Express.
Despite successive governments trying to encourage more UK companies to do business overseas, figures from the CBI suggest only around one in five SMEs in the UK currently trade internationally.
To help unlock this missed opportunity TNT Express has published ‘The Art of Nimble’, a free white paper designed to give insight and help UK SMEs begin playing an active part in global supply chains.
Figures from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) show that companies which export see a 34 per cent increase in productivity within their first year of exporting, and are 11 per cent more likely to survive.
Alistair Cochrane, Managing Director of TNT Express UK & Ireland, said: “Time and again when we speak to UK-based SMEs we deal with we find many are too apprehensive or too unaware of the opportunities which may exist to actively begin trading overseas.
“With more than 2 billion people and businesses now online globally, traditional concepts of marketplaces being limited by national borders no longer apply. That is why it is critical that we do all we can to help UK SMEs embrace the global marketplace, both for their own sake and for the wider UK economy.
“This white paper is designed as a first step to help them do just that. It looks at how understanding supply chains can bring competitive advantage and investigates the supporting role logistics is playing in allowing today’s increasingly strategic supply chains to operate effectively.”
