SDI Group Seals Deal With Astas For Turkish Fashion Market

SDI Group, the global integrator of automated material handling systems, has established a presence in the Turkish automation market through an exclusive distributor arrangement with Astas, the Istanbul based sewing machine and cutting equipment supplier to the country’s expansive textile industry.

Founded in 1980, and with a turnover today of £60 million, Astas is one of the largest providers of sewing machines to the garment manufacturing sector and has over twenty offices located in major towns and cities at the heart of the Turkish textile trade.

Gordon Smith, CEO at SDI Group, commented: “We are delighted to be working with Astas, a company with such a dominant position in Turkey’s important garment manufacturing sector. This strategic alliance will create a powerful platform for delivering SDI Group’s sortation technology for hanging garments and boxed items to Turkey’s apparel industry, clothing brand distributors and fashion retailers.”

Turgay Asci, Sales and Marketing Director at Astas, said: “SDI Group is an internationally recognised leader in providing automated solutions for garment manufacturers and fashion businesses. It makes great sense for Astas to offer SDI Group’s automated handling technology alongside our range of cutting and sewing machines. There is a huge potential market for automated systems for storing and sorting hanging and boxed garments in Turkey and with our large established customer base, we are perfectly matched to develop that potential.”

The partnership has already resulted in a deal to install a flat sorter with 300 drop points for LC Waikiki, one of Turkey’s leading fashion brands, and further contracts with other major companies are in the pipeline.

“This deal is a further demonstration of how a British automated materials handling company is achieving success in a global market,” said Gordon Smith.
