Wellgrain Ltd. Launch Own Fleet With 8 Scanias

WellGrain Limited is one of the UK’s leading independent traders of combinable agriproducts, providing the link between UK arable farmers and the global market place. Based in Ely, Cambridgeshire, the company was established in 2003, and offers customers a reliable service, and flexible customised solutions to the risk associated with the trading of agricultural products.

In the past WellGrain relied heavily on sub-contractors for their haulage needs, however, as the business expanded it became clear that bringing a greater proportion of this work in house would provide cost savings and increased flexibility to the company. Early in 2014 WellGrain decided to invest in their own vehicles and between May and July the first of the fleet began to hit the road. Starting with 8 Scania G450LA6x2/2MNA  Hendrickson axle Lightweight tractors – specified to achieve payload as near 29,000kg as possible. With deadlines met to be ready for the grain harvest, TruckEast Ltd. supplied the 8 vehicles, all with alloy wheels, 2-pedal opticruise with Eco-Roll and Active Prediction technology, as well as meeting Euro-6 standards.  As part of this investment, 8 new Crane Fruehauf tri-axle bulk tipping trailers were supplied by Newton Trailers.

WellGrain have adopted Scania’s Fuel Card, which provides a highly competitive way in which to purchase diesel, with which prices are fixed for seven days and are notified in advance by email, fax or text, preventing any nasty surprises and regional variations. They have also adopted Scania’s RemoteTacho download service, meaning that at all times, there is online access to activity reports for both the driver and vehicle data from secure servers. Additionally, the trucks and trailers are now all on a 5 year R&M contract with TruckEast Ely, who offer a range of services from 24-hour break down assistance, roller brake testing, and trailer services, to new and recycled parts sales and truck and tarpaulin services.

Ben Schadla-Hall, Operations Director at WellGrain Ltd., commented, ‘TruckEast have provided us with excellent support and advice all the way along, the lorries are highly equipped and have been specified to our exact requirements. This has allowed our business to expand and the after sales support and online information has given us the tools we need to continually assess how we are running the fleet and maximise our revenue.’
